Star Rangers began life as a story by Janice Bowers. Stephen wished to adapt it for the stage and began with a Star Rangers theme to which Janice provided the lyrics. She also wrote the song A Wizard for All Seasons but sadly died before much of the script was written. Stephen has now completed the adaptation, (wherever possible using Janice's original dialogue) and has written all the other songs. A selection of the songs are provided here, strictly as demos.
A Brief Synopsis
A young girl, Louise, is talking to her godmother. She thinks it would be wonderful to have a real fairy godmother but they only exist in stories. She is wrong and her fairy godmother calls on her friend Major Tom and The Star Rangers to come and tell her a story.
King Stevvan of the planet Wolveran is fed up with his courtiers who create a ceremony out of every mundane task. He seeks advice from Castor the court magician who advises "a spot of travel" on the spaceship Star Ranger. Castor takes them to the small, but perfectly formed, planet of Brookendia where Stevvan meets and falls in love with Princess Anara.
Before leaving Wolveran, Stevvan appointed Count Tantalus to be his Regent. Tantalus sees the king's absence as an opportunity to take control of Wolveran for ever.
On Brookendia, Anara and Stevvan face opposition from her aunt Grand Duchess Augusta but she is eventually won over by Castor.
On their return to Wolveran the spaceship is attacked but of course they survive and Tantalus is put in his place.
